(5) Remove t he backup lamp bulb fr om the t ail
lam p socket pla te.
INSTALLATION
(1) In st all th e backup lamp bulb into the tail lam p
socket pla te (Fig. 3).
(2) Align the socket pla te with the moun tin g hole
in the inne r re ar p illar.
(3) Usin g han d pressure, push the socket plate
gent ly and even ly into th e inn er rear pillar mou nting
hole until bot h latch tabs ar e fully enga ged (Fig. 2).
(4) If t he vehicle is so equ ipped, reinstall th e trim
onto t he inside of the r ight or left rear corner pillar.
(5) Reconnect t he battery negative cable.
BRAK E LAM P SWI T CH
REMOVAL
WARNING: To avoid personal injury or death, on
vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the supple-
mental restraint system before attempting any
steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt
tensioner, or instrument panel component diagno-
sis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery
negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for
the system capacitor to discharge before perform-
ing further diagnosis or service. This is the only
sure way to disable the supplemental restraint sys-
tem. Failure to take the proper precautions could
result in accidental airbag deployment.
(1) Disconn ect and isolate the battery nega tive
cable.
(2) Locate th e br ake lam p switch on t he peda l
bracket un dernea th the instrument panel (Fig. 4).
(3) Depress the locking tab on the brake lamp
switch body beh ind the pedal bracket and rot ate the
switch counterclockwise about 30 degrees (F ig. 5).
(4) Pull t he switch forwar d in the vehicle far
enough to disenga ge the switch plu nger from the
mounting hole in the pedal bra cket.
(5) Disconn ect the vehicle wire harness from the
brake lamp switch conn ector receptacle.
(6) Remove the br ake lam p switch from the veh i-
cle.
