(8) Reconnect t he battery negative cable.
REMOVAL
WARNING: To avoid personal injury or death, on
vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the supple-
mental restraint system before attempting any
steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt
tensioner, or instrument panel component diagno-
sis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery
negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for
the system capacitor to discharge before perform-
ing further diagnosis or service. This is the only
sure way to disable the supplemental restraint sys-
tem. Failure to take the proper precautions could
result in accidental airbag deployment.
(1) Disconn ect and isolate the battery nega tive
cable.
(2) Unsn ap the base covers from each other an d
remove th em from the rear view m irror arm a t the
windshield (Fig. 10).
(3) Usin g a sm all thin-bladed screwdriver, gently
pr y t he r etaining collar slightly upwar d while press-
ing the m irror arm downwa rd par allel to th e wind-
sh ield un til the m irror a rm unsnaps fr om the
bracket.
(4) Sepa rat e and r emove th e two ha lves of the
wire cover from the ra in sensor pigtail wires.
(5) Loosen t he screws securing both inn er sun
visor hinges to t he windshield header.
(6) Pull the hea dliner down fr om t he windshield
header fa r enough to pull the rain sen sor pigta il wire
connect or out from under t he headliner.
(7) Remove the anti-rat tle felt from the wir e con-
nector insulator s.
(8) Disconn ect the sensor pigta il wire connector
from the roof wire h arn ess con nector.
CAUTION: Do not touch the gel-like surface of the
rain sensor or the sensor function may be impaired
and the sensor rendered unusable.
(9) Remove the rain sensor from t he center of the
bracket.
INSTALLATION

(1) Position the rain sensor into the cen ter of t he
bracket on th e win dshield (Fig. 10).
(2) Reconnect the sensor pigtail wire connector to
the r oof wir e har ness connect or.
(3) Reinstall th e a nti-rattle felt over the wir e con -
nector insulator s.
(4) Pull the hea dliner down fr om t he windshield
header far enou gh to tuck the ra in sensor pigta il
wire connector under the hea dliner.
(5) Tighten t he screws secur ing bot h inn er su n
visor hinges to t he windshield header.
(6) Align a nd install th e two halves of the wire
cover over the r ain sen sor pigta il wires.
(7) Press the r ear view mirror arm upwa rd par al-
lel to th e windshield un til th e mirror arm snaps ont o
the bracket.
(8) Align and position the base covers to ea ch
other an d sna p t hem over the r ear view mirror arm
at the windshield.
(9) Reconnect t he battery negative cable.
