(6) Usin g the appropriat e clea n engine oil, clean
the cylinder bores, conn ectin g rod bearing journ als,
connect ing rod bea ring shells an d pistons.
CAUTION: Offset the piston ring gaps by 120°.
(7) Position a ring com pressor over piston a nd
rings. Tighten ring compressor (Fig. 42). Ensure
that ring position does not change during this
operation.
CAUTION: Rotate the crankshaft sufficiently so that
the connecting rod does not touch the connecting
rod journal when the piston is pushed onto the cyl-
inder bore.
(8) In st all pist on with arr ow poin ting in the direc-
tion of travel (in th e opposite dir ection t o power flow)
(the marking on t he connectin g rod shou ld be point-
ing towa rd the inlet side). (F ig. 42).
