CAUTION: Avoid application of rust prevention com-
pounds or undercoating materials to exhaust sys-
tem floor pan exhaust heat shields. Light overspray
near the edges is permitted. Application of coating
will result in excessive floor pan temperatures and
objectionable fumes.
The diesel engine exha ust system consists of an
engine exha ust ma nifold, turbochar ger, exh aust pipe,
resona tor, exten sion pipe (if needed), muffler and
exha ust tailpipe (Fig. 1).
The exhau st system mu st be proper ly aligned and
secured to prevent str ess, lea kage and body con tact.
The exh aust components shou ld be kept a minim um
of 25.4 mm (1.0 in.) away fr om t he body a nd frame.
If th e system conta cts any body panel, it may a mplify
objection able noises fr om the en gin e or body.
