STANDARD PROCEDURE - LOW PRESSURE
FUEL PUMP TEST
NOTE: Assure fuel tank quantity and proper fuel
gauge operation. Assure that the fuel pump fuse or
relay is not open. Capture any fuel spillage and
store in appropriately marked containers.
NOTE: When the ignition switch is turned to the ON
position the fuel pump will begin to run for 20–30
seconds and then it stops.
The low pressure pum p dra ws fuel out of th e fuel
tank module and pushes th e fuel towards the fu el fil-
ter. If th e pressur e rea ding is below specifica tion,
look for dam aged or leaking fuel lines or a rest ricted
fuel filter. If no pr oblem is foun d with th e fuel sys-
tem replace t he low pressur e fuel pump.
(1) Disconn ect the n egat ive battery cable.
(2) Connect a fuel ga uge t o the low pr essu re fuel
su pply to the h igh pressu re pum p (F ig. 4).
(3) Connect nega tive bat tery cable.
(4) Turn the ign ition t o t he ON position an d
observe the fuel gau ge rea ding (Fig. 5).
(5) The fuel pressure should be 4.0 to 4.5 bar (58 -
65 psi) If the fuel pr essu re is below specifica tion ,
