EMERGENCY RUNNING FUNCTION
In or der to en su re a safe driving stat e and t o pre-
vent damage to t he autom atic transmission, t he TCM
control module switches to limp-home mode in the
event of cr itical fa ults. A diagnostic trouble code
(DTC) assigned to the fault is stor ed i n memory. All
solenoid an d regulating va lves ar e th us de-en ergized.
The n et effect is:
• Th e la st en ga ged gea r r em a in s en ga ged.
• Th e modu lating pressur e and shift pressur es
rise to the maximum levels.
• Th e torqu e converter lockup clutch is dea cti-
vate d .
In order t o preser ve th e operability of th e vehicle
to some extent, the h ydraulic con trol can be used to
enga ge 2nd gea r or reverse using the following pro-
cedure:
• Stop the vehicle.
• Move selector lever to “P”.
• Switch off en gin e.
• Wait at least 10 secon ds.
• Star t engin e.
• Move selector lever to D: 2nd gear.
• Move selector lever to R: Reverse gear.
The limp-home fun ction r emains active un til th e
DTC is rect ified or th e stored DTC is erased wit h the
appropriate scan t ool. Sporadic faults can be r eset
via ignition OFF/ON.
