DESCRIPTION
The SAE bolt st rength grades ra nge from gra de 2
to grade 8. The higher the grade number, the greater
the bolt stren gth . Ident ifica tion is deter min ed by th e
lin e marks on th e t op of ea ch bolt head. The actual
bolt strengt h grade corresponds t o t he num ber of lin e
marks plus 2. The m ost com monly used metric bolt
st rength classes are 9.8 an d 10.9. The metric
st rength class identification n umber is im pr int ed on
the hea d of the bolt. The higher t he class number,
the great er the bolt strength. Some m etric nu ts a re
imprinted with a single-digit str engt h class on th e
