STANDARD PROCEDURE - TCM ADAPTATION
The a da ptation procedu re requires the use of the
appropriate scan t ool. This progr am allows t he elec-
tronic tr ansmission system to re-calibr ate itself. This
will provide the proper baseline transmission oper a-
tion. The adaptation procedu re should be perform ed
if any of t he followin g procedu res are perform ed:
Tra nsmission Assembly Replacement
Tra nsmission Contr ol Module Replacement
Clutch Plat e and/or Sea l Replacement
Electrohydr aulic Un it Replacem ent or Recondi-

NOTE: Perform the Coast Down Adaptations first.
The Transmission Temperature must be greater
than 60°C (140°F) and less than 70°C (158°F). Fail-

temperature ranges will void this procedure.
(4) From a stop, moder ately accelera te the vehicle
and obt ain all forward gear ranges wh ile keeping th e
Engine RPM below 1800 RP M. Repeat this pr ocedure
4to5times.
(5) Obtainin g 5th gear may be difficult a t 1800
RPM. Allow the transmission to sh ift int o 5th gea r at
a higher RPM t hen lower the RP M to 1800 and per-
form ma nua l sh ifts between 4th and 5th gears usin g
the sh ift lever.
(6) The TCM will store the adaptives every 10
minutes. After completion of the adaptation proce-
