seat riser, a fog lamp switch in stalled in the cluster
bezel on t he instr umen t panel ou tboar d of the steer-
ing colum n, an d a fog lam p bulb insta lled in each of
the two front lamp un its. The front fog lamps ha ve a
pa th to ground at all t imes t hrough their connection
to th e v ehicle wire ha rness. The headlamp switch cir-
cuitry of th e left (lighting) cont rol stalk of the multi-
function switch contr ols front fog lamp operat ion by
pr oviding ba tter y current to the fr ont fog lam p relay
only when t he low beam h eadla mps a re selected. Th e
fog lamp swit ch contr ols fron t fog lamp opera tion by
energizing or de-energizing the fr ont fog lamp relay
control coil.
HAZARD WARNING LAMPS
With the hazar d switch in t he On posit ion, the
hazard switch bu tton illu minates an d the r igh t and
left turn sign al in dicator s as well a s the right an d
left turn signal lam ps begin t o flash on a nd off. When
the h aza rd warn ing system is activat ed, the ha zard
switch circuitry wit hin th e multi-funct ion switch a nd
the wipers, tur n signals and engine sta rt control
module electronic circuitry with in the fuse block will
repeat edly energize and de-en ergize the turn sign al
rela y locat ed in the fuse block. The turn signa l r elay
switch es bat tery cur rent from a fu sed B(+) fu se in
the fu se block t o th e turn signal i n dicators and the
turn signal lamps. The flashing of the ha zard switch
butt on illum ination lamp is also con trolled by the
output fr om the t urn signal relay.
HEADLAMPS
The headlamp syst em in cludes the exterior ligh ting
switch es in tegr al to the left (lighting) cont rol stalk of
the multi-funct ion swit ch as well as t he low a nd h igh
beam bu lbs insta lled in th e right and left fron t la mp
units (Fig. 1). The hea dlamp bulbs have a pat h to
ground at all times through the vehicle wire harness.
The ext erior ligh ting switches contr ol h eadla mp oper-
ation by providin g bat tery curr ent to th e selected low
or high beam bulbs. Ea ch fr ont la mp unit includes
two integra l adjustm ent screws to be u sed for st atic
horizont al and vertical a iming of the h eadla mp bea m
reflectors.
HEADLAMP LEVELING
The headlamp leveling system inclu des a leveling
actuator motor int egral t o each front la mp un it, and
a rota ry th umbwh eel act uated h eadla mp leveling
switch in th e clu st er bezel on the instr umen t pa nel
outboa rd of the steerin g colu mn. The headla mp lev-
eling system allows the hea dlamp beam r eflectors to
be adjusted to one of four ver tica l posit ions to com-
pensate for ch anges in inclina tion caused by the load-
ing of the vehicle suspension. The act uator mot ors
are mechanica lly con nected through an integra l
pu sh rod t o an a djust able headlamp reflector. The
headlamp levelin g switch is a resistor mu ltiplexed
unit th at provides one of four volta ge ou tputs to t he
headlamp leveling motors. The headlamp leveling
motors will m ove the headlamps to the select ed posi-
tion based upon t he volta ge i n pu t received fr om the
switch . The hea dlamp levelin g motors a nd switch
have a pa th to groun d a t all t imes. Th e headlamp
leveling componen ts oper ate on battery current
received th rough the pa rk lamps circuit so t hat the
system will only oper ate when t he exterior lighting is
turned on.
PARK LAMPS
The pa rk lam ps system inclu des the exterior light-
ing swit ches in tegr al to the left (lighting) cont rol
st alk of the multi-fu nction switch (Fig. 1), the front
pa rk/side ma rker lamps, the front position lamps, t he
rear park lamps, the rear side marker lamps, the
opt ional cleara nce lam ps, an d the license plate
lam ps. Ea ch of these lamps ar e pr ovided wit h a pa th
to ground at all tim es th rough the vehicle wire har-
ness. The ext erior light ing switches control th e park
lam p operation by providing battery cu rren t through
the park la mps circuit to the appropriate lamp bulbs.
