12.4 Dual Capsule FRM/SFRM
The Rutter Technologies VDR100-G3 will support the simultaneous use of 2 FRM devices. This
configuration currently supports the use of the L3 HVR-/02 Fixed FRM Capsule or Rutter FRM
(RUT-02447) Fixed Capsule as a fixed device and the JoTron Float-free SFRM Capsule or the
Rutter-ACR Float-free SFRM Capsules as a Float-free device. Additional capsules may be
added in the future. Support for 3 devices simultaneously is not anticipated.
12.4.1 Planning for Dual Capsule Setup
Refer to the planning section given in the appropriate section for the FRM and SFRM to be
mounted.
12.4.2 Install Capsule on Download Hub
When using a secondary capsule, a second hub must be provided in the DPU cabinet. The hub is
mounted wherever it is best accessible and allows for passage of Ethernet cabling in the cabinet.
The download hub allows for connection of the following items simultaneously:
1. Rutter-ACR Float-free SFRM Capsule or JoTron Float-free SFRM Capsule
2. VDR Data port
3. Remote Storage Module
4. Download PC
Connect the secondary capsule to a free port on the download hub and confirm communication is
available again using the ping command.
12.4.2.1 Connecting and Testing the Secondary FRM
Depending on the selected secondary capsule, refer to the appropriate sections in this chapter to
configure, connect and test the secondary FRM: Section 12.3.1: Rutter-ACR Float-free SFRM
Capsule Setup and Section 12.3.2: JoTron Float-free SFRM Capsule Set-Up
12.4.3 Setting up the Primary FRM
The Primary FRM in a dual capsule configuration is always set up on the FRM port. There is no
special setup for this capsule. Depending on the selected primary FRM, refer to the appropriate
sections in this chapter to configure, connect and test the primary FRM.
12.4.4 Set up Secondary Capsule
There are several steps to configuring the capsule to function as a secondary unit.
These steps are described in the following sections.
