A2.8.5.1 Heading Device Manufacturer
Enter the name of the manufacturer of the heading device.
A2.8.5.2 Model
Enter the model of the heading device.
A2.8.5.3 Device Location
Enter the location of the heading device onboard the ship.
A2.8.5.4 Talker ID
The first two alphanumeric characters of the NMEA sentence ‘Address Field’ identify the Talker.
Note! When entering the Talker ID for a heading device, these two letters will
typically be “HE”.
A2.8.5.5 DataMux Channel
Enter the DataMux channel to which the heading device is connected.
A2.8.5.6 String to Use for Heading
From the drop down box select the string from which heading information is collected. Options
available for selection are HDT (Heading, True) or HDG (Heading, Deviation & Variation).
HDT – Actual vessel heading in degrees True produced by any device or system producing
true heading.
$--HDT,x.x,T*hh<CR><LF>
HDG – Heading (magnetic sensor reading), which if corrected for deviation, will produce
Magnetic heading, which is offset by variation will provide True heading.
$--HDG,x.x,x.x,a,x.x,a*hh<CR><LF>
A2.8.5.7 Sample of Heading String
Enter a sample of the heading string. See example HDT and HDG string formats provided in
String to Use for Heading provided above.
