Appendix 2: System Configuration File, Rev. 1.1
A2.14.1 Number of Thrusters
Dependant on the number of thrusters selected (via the “Number of Thrusters” radio buttons), an
equivalent number of tabs will appear for each thruster specified. Enter information for each
thruster in the tabbed sections in the bottom half of the Thruster Tab window.
A2.14.2 # of Control Locations
See the “# of Control Locations” section under the Propulsion heading above for a description of
the use of control locations and their setup. Note that while the control information may be the
same, it must be entered separately for engines and thrusters.
A2.14.3 Thruster Description
In the tabbed sections, enter information relevant (for example, Order and Response) to the
applicable thruster. In the ”Short Thruster Description” field, provide a descriptive name for the
engine in question that will allow a user to recognize it in the VDR Playback application, i.e. Bow
Thruster 1.
Order and Response information (as well as, in some cases, Fixed Information) will need to be
added, including the “Type” of input device recording that information. It will be necessary to
configure the entered input device. Click the ‘Setup’ button and enter the relevant information in
the configure device window.
Where more than 1 control location is specified, a location must be selected prior to selecting an
input device. For example, the following steps would be completed to configure a ship with 3
control locations on the thruster order.
1. Select the number of thrusters via the radio buttons.
2. Select Thruster 1 via the tab selection.
3. Select the number of control locations (3).
4. On the Thruster 1 tab:
a. Select Control location 1.
b. Select the input device type.
c. Click Setup and enter the order data.
d. Repeat A, B and C for control locations 2 & 3.
e. Select an input device for response.
f. Click Setup to enter response data.
5. Repeat step 4 for each additional thruster.
A2.15 Steering
The ‘Steering’ tab requires the input of configuration information for the ship’s steering system
(see figure below).
A2.15.1 Number of Rudders
Select the appropriate radio button in order to indicate the ‘Number of Rudders’. If azipods are the
propulsion method, ‘Number of Azipods’ will appear in place of ‘Number of Rudders’ and the radio
button selection will default to the number of azipods selected earlier under the Propulsion tab.
That number will also be represented in the number of Rudder/Azipod information tabs visible.
