7.7.7.2 Replacing and tensioning V-
ribbed belts
Main belt drive and air conditioning com-
pressor
Switch off the diesel engine and remove
the ignition key.
Operate the battery disconnect switch.
Using a socket wrench, push the tension-
ing pulleys in the direction of the arrow until
the drill holes are aligned, then secure with
a suitable locking pin, diameter 6 mm.
Remove the V-ribbed belt from the smallest
roller or the tensioning roller first.
Fit a new V-ribbed belt in accordance with
the routing of the belt.
Move the tensioning pulleys back into posi-
tion.
Check to see whether the V-ribbed belts
are correctly routed.
n For the test run, close all openings to
the engine compartment.
Switch the battery isolator switch on.
Perform a trial run.
Check the tension and seat again.
ATTENTION
When replacing the V-ribbed belt, check the
idler pulley for ease of movement and play. Re-
place defective idler pulleys immediately.
