DESCRIPTION
This sect ion describes th e power distribution com-
pon ents used on this model as well as the met hods in
which battery volta ge a nd cha rging system volta ge is
distribut ed t hroughout th e vehicle. The power distr i-
bution system for this vehicle consists of the follow-
ing major compon ents which ar e covered in furt her
detail later in this section:
• Fuseblock #1
• Fuseblock #2
• Power Dist ribu tion Cen ter (PDC)
The power distribu tion system also in corporat es
var ious types of circu it contr ol and protection fea-
tures, includin g:
• Automa tic r esetting circuit breakers
• Blade-t ype fuses
• Ca rtridge fu ses
• Rela ys
Following are general descriptions a nd t heory of
operat ion for th e ma jor components in t he power dis-
tribution system. Refer to Wirin g for the location of
complet e circuit diagram s for the va rious power dis-
tribution system components.
OPERATION
The power distribution system for this veh icle is
designed to provide safe, reliable, and cen tralized dis-
tribution poin ts for th e electrical current requir ed to
operat e all of the st andar d a nd opt iona l fact ory-in-
st alled electrical and power train, cha ssis, safety,
security a nd con venience syst ems. At th e sa me time,
the power distr ibut ion syst em was designed to pro-
vide easy access to th ese electr ical distribution points
for the vehicle tech nician to use when conduct ing
diagnosis and r epair of fault y cir cuit s. The power dis-
tribution system can also prove useful for the addi-
tion of elect rical cir cuit s that m ay be r equired to
operat e accessor ies tha t the vehicle own er may
choose to have installed in the aftermarket .
CI GAR LI GH T ER OU T LET
DESCRIPTION
The cigar lighter outlet is in stalled in the instru-
ment pan el, near the center of th e instrument pan el.
The ciga r lighter outlet is secu red by a sna p fit
wit h in t h e in st r u m en t p a n el.
The cigar lighter knob/heat ing elemen t, and the
ciga r light er outlet are available for service. Th ese
components cann ot be repaired a nd, if faulty or da m-
aged, they must be repla ced.
