TURBOCHARGER
DESCRIPTION
The boost pressure vacuum solenoid is located
under the air filt er housing a nd is r espon sible for
turbo-ch arger boost pressu re. It generates a cont rol
vacu um in respon se to a PWM signal from th e ECM.
Vacu um is achieved by mixing the system va cuum
(from the vacuum pu mp) with at mospheric pressur e
to a certa in degree. The resu lting vacuu m is sen t to
the vacuum unit at th e tur bochar ger (Fig. 4).
OPERATION
The vacu um solenoid receives 12V from the ECM.
The ECM cont rols th e solen oid thr ough a PWM sig-
nal. Wh en th e solenoid receives a signa l it closes the
pa ssa ge to atm ospheric pr essu re. Th e subch amber is
no longer u nder atmospher ic pressure, its spring can
pu sh the diaphragm and valve downwards; th is
releases t he VAC du ct. Vacuum ca n now go from here
through the t hrottle h ole, filter s a nd out the con nec-
tion to the t urboch arger vacuum unit (Fig. 5).
