REMOVAL
(1) Drain diesel fuel from tank. Refer t o Sta ndard
Procedure — Dr aining Fuel Tank — Diesel.
(2) Disconn ect fuel fill and vent lines fr om body.
(3) Raise and support vehicle.
(4) Su pport tank with a h ydrau lic jack.
(5) Remove 2 fu el tank strap nut s (8) (Fig. 23) and
position straps (7) t owards left side of vehicle.
(6) Carefully lower ta nk a few inches an d discon -
nect elect rica l connector at top of fuel pu mp module.
(7) Disconn ect fuel su pply line at tank.
(8) Disconn ect fuel retu rn line at tank.
(9) Continue to ca refully lower tank for remova l.
(10) If fuel pum p module is t o be removed, thor-
oughly clea n area at t op of fuel pum p around module.
(11) If fu el tank is to be replaced, remove fu el
pu mp module from tan k. Refer to Fu el Pump Module
Removal/Installation pr ocedures.
(12) If fuel cooler lines (Fig. 24) ar e to be removed,
use specia l pliers #9539 (Fig. 25).
