OPERATION
The holding clutches (F ig. 166) connect the a nnu-
lus gea r, sun gear, or planetar y ca rrier of a plan etar y
gear set aga inst the tra nsmission housing in order to
transmit the drive torque.
If t he piston (16) on multiple-disc holding clut ch
B1 (1) is subject ed to oil pressu re, it pr esses the
internal (3) and exter nal discs (2) of the disc set
toget her. The inter nally t oothed disc carrier (15)
locks the sun gear (14) a gainst th e housing. Th e
planet ary pinion gears (13) t urn on th e sun gea r (14).
If the multiple-disc holding clutch B2 (5) is a ctu-
ated via the piston (7), the piston com pr esses the disc
set. Th e interna lly toothed disc carrier (8) locks t he
su n gear (12) against the hou sing. The planetary pin-
ion gea rs (11) turn on the su n gear (12).
If the multiple-disc holding clutch B3 (4) is a ctu-
ated via t he piston (6), th e pla neta ry carrier (9) and
the ann ulus gear (10) a re locked. Wh en t he m ultiple-
disc br ake B3 (4) is actua ted, th e direction of rotation
is re vers ed .
