FRONTA/CSYSTEM
• LOW PR ES S U R E GAU GE H OS E—The low
pr essu re hose (Blue with Bla ck st ripe) attach es to
the su ction line service por t. This port is loca ted on
the su ction line near t he dash pan el.
• HIGH P RESSURE GAUGE HOSE—The h igh
pr essu re h ose (Red with Bla ck stripe) a ttaches to t he
dischar ge line ser vice por t. This por t is loca ted on th e
liquid line between the con den ser an d the reciver-
drier.
• RECOVERY/RECYCLIN G/E VACU ATION /
CH AR GIN G H OS E—The center m anifold h ose (Yel-
low, or White, with Bla ck stripe) is u sed to recover,
evacu ate, and char ge the refrigerant system . When
the low or h igh pr essu re valves on the man ifold
gau ge set ar e opened, the refrigerant in th e system
will escape through th is hose.
REAR A / C SYSTEM
• LOW PR ES S U R E GAU GE H OS E—The low
pr essu re hose (Blue with Bla ck st ripe) attach es to
the suction line service por t. This port is locat ed
with in the r ear A/C evaporator housin g near t he left
side of the eva por ator, below t he high-pr essu re ser-
vice por t.
• HIGH P RESSURE GAUGE HOSE—The h igh
pr essu re h ose (Red with Bla ck stripe) a ttaches to t he
liquid line service por t. Th is port is locat ed within
the rea r A/C eva por ator housing nea r the left side of
the evapor ator, above th e low-pressu re service por t.

REFRIGERANT SYSTEM RECOVERY
WARNING: Refer to the applicable warnings and
cautions for this system before performing the fol-
lowing operation (Refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR
CONDITIONING/PLUMBING - WARNINGS) and (Refer
to 24 - HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING/PLUMBING -
CAUTIONS). Failure to follow the warnings and cau-
tions could result in possible personal injury or
death.
A R-134a r efrigera nt recovery/recycling/charging
st ation that meets SAE St andard J 2210 must be
used to recover the refriger ant fr om an R-134a refrig-
eran t system . Refer to t he opera tin g instructions sup-
plied by the equipment manufactu rer for t he proper
care and use of this equipm ent.
REFRIGERANT SYSTEM EVACUATE
WARNING: Refer to the applicable warnings and
cautions for this system before performing the fol-
lowing operation (Refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR
CONDITIONING/PLUMBING - WARNINGS) and (Refer

CAUTIONS). Failure to follow the warnings and cau-
tions could result in possible personal injury or
death.
If the r efrigera nt system has been open to t he
atmosphere, it mu st be evacua ted before the system
can be char ged. If moisture a nd air enters the system
and becomes mixed with the r efrigera nt, th e com-
pr essor hea d pressur e will rise above accepta ble
operat ing levels. This will redu ce the per formance of
the a ir conditioner an d da mage the compressor.
Eva cuating th e r efrigera nt syst em will remove th e
air an d boil t he moist ure out of t he system a t n ear
room tem per atu re. To evacu ate the refriger ant sys-
tem, use th e following procedure:
(1) Connect a R-134a refrigerant recovery/recy-
clin g/chargin g stat ion that m eets SAE Standar d
J 2210 a nd a ma nifold gauge set t o the refr iger ant
system of t he vehicle.
(2) Open the low an d h igh side valves an d st art
the ch arging sta tion va cuum pum p. When the su c-
tion gau ge reads 88 kP a (26 in. Hg.) vacuum or
grea ter, cl ose all of the valves and t urn off the va c-
uum pump.
(a) If the refrigera nt system fails to reach the
specified vacuu m, the system h as a lea k that must
be corrected. (Refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR CON-
DITIONING/PLUMBING - DIAGNOSIS AND
TESTING - REFRIGERANT SYSTE M LEAKS)
(b) If the refrigerant system mainta ins the spec-
ified vacuum for five m inu tes, r estart the vacuum
pu mp, open the suction an d discharge valves a nd
evacu ate the system for an a ddition al ten minut es.
(3) Close all of the va lves, an d tur n off the char g-
ing stat ion vacuum pump.
(4) The refr iger ant system is now ready to be
charged with R-134a refrigera nt. (Refer t o 24 -
