CAUTION: Use only the specified O-rings as they
are made of a special material for the R-134a sys-
tem. The use of any other O-rings may allow the
connection to leak intermittently during vehicle
operation.
(4) Lubricate the male fitting and O-rin gs, an d the
inside of the fema le fitting with clean R-134a r efrig-
eran t oil. Use only refrigerant oil of the t ype recom-
mended for t he compressor in the vehicle.
(5) Fit t he fema le ha lf of the cou pler fit ting over
the m ale half of the fit ting.
(6) Push together firmly on th e two h alves of the
coupler fitting until the ga rter spring in t he ca ge on
the m ale half of the fitting sn aps over the flanged
end on the female half of the fitting.
(7) Ensur e th at th e sprin g-lock coupler is fully
enga ged by trying to sepa rate th e two cou pler halves.
This is done by pulling the refr iger ant lines on eit her
side of the coupler away from each other.
(8) Reinstall the seconda ry reta ining clip over t he
spring-lock coupler cage.
(9) Eva cuate the refrigera nt system (Refer to 24 -
HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING/PLUMBING -
STANDARD PROCEDURE - REFRIGE RANT SYS-
TEM EVACUATE).
(10) Charge th e refrigerant system (Refer to 24 -
HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING/PLUMBING -
STANDARD PROCEDURE - REFRIGE RANT SYS-
TEM CH ARGE).
UNDERBODY LINES
REMOVAL
WARNING: Refer to the applicable warnings and
cautions for this system before performing the fol-
lowing operation (Refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR
CONDITIONING/PLUMBING - WARNINGS) and (Refer
to 24 - HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING/PLUMBING -
CAUTIONS). Failure to follow the warnings and cau-
tions could result in possible personal injury or
death.
NOTE: The underbody refrigerant lines for the
optional rear A/C system are serviced in five sec-
tions. Two sections are connected the A/C compres-
sor. Two sections of the underbody suction line
(low-side) are connected together by a tapping
block with an O-ring seal. The underbody A/C dis-
charge line uses a spring-lock type refrigerant line
coupler with an O-ring seal.
DISCHARGE LINE
(1) Remove th e cover from the rea r A/C evapor ator
housin g (Refer to 24 - H EATING & AIR CONDI-
TIONING/DISTRIBUTION - REAR/A/C EVAPORA-
TOR COVE R-REAR - RE MOVAL).
(2) Recover the refr iger ant from the rear r efriger-
ant system (Refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR CONDI-
TIONING/PLUMBING - STANDARD PROCEDURE -
REFRIGERANT RECOVERY).
(3) Raise and support the vehicle.
(4) Usin g the proper A/C line disconn ect tool, dis-
connect the underbody disch arge lin e spring-lock cou-
pler from t he com pr essor sect ion of the un derbody
dischar ge line and r emove an d discard t he O-rin g
seal (Refer t o 24 - HE ATING & AIR CONDITION-
ING/PLUMBING/REFRIGERANT LINE COUPLER -
REMOVAL) (Fig. 39).
(5) Disconn ect the u nderbody disch arge line from
the rear A/C discha rge line and remove and discard
the O-rin g seal.
(6) In st all plu g in, or tape over all of the opened
dischar ge line fitt ings.
(7) Disengage the fuel lines from the reta ining clip
locat ed near the tra nsmission and position the fuel
lin es out of th e way.
(8) Remove the screws a nd brackets th at secure
the dischar ge line to th e under neath of the vehicle.
(9) Su pport transm ission with a suitable lifting
device a nd r emove t he rea r t ransmission crossmem-
ber (Refer to 13 - FRAME & BUMPERS/FRAME/
REAR CROSSMEMBE R-TRANSMISSION -
REMOVAL).
(10) Remove the underbody discha rge line from
the vehicle. Push th e dischar ge line forwa rd a nd over
the t ransmission, t hen pull it r earward to remove.
(11) If necessa ry, rem ove the bolt th at secu res t he
compressor section of the underbody disch arge line to
the A/C compr essor and r emove and discard th e
O-rin g sea l. Make sure to plug in, or tape over the
opened discharge lin e fitting an d com pr essor port.
