(7) With th e DRBIII! scan t ool in Ca bin Heater,
select System Tests and Dosing Pu mp Pr ime. Allow
the dosing pump to r un for the full 45 second cycle
time. Wh en the 45 secon d cycle is complet e, press
Page Back on th e DRBIII! scan t ool key pad to exit
the Dosing Pu mp Prime. The Dosing P ump Pr iming
pr ocedure is now com plete.
HEATER UNIT
REM OVAL
HEATER UNIT
WARNING: Do not operate the diesel supplemental
cabin heater in an enclosed area such as a garage
that does not have exhaust ventilation facilities.
Always vent the cabin heater exhaust when operat-
ing the cabin heater. Allow the diesel supplemental
cabin heater to cool before performing any service
procedures to the cabin heater. Verify that all diesel
supplemental cabin heater fuel lines are securely
fastened to their respective components before per-
forming any service procedures to the cabin heater.
Failure to follow these warnings may result in pos-
sible personal injury or death.
(1) Raise and su ppor t the vehicle. Take n ote of the
locat ion of t he flexible section of t he cabin heater
exh a u st t u be.
(2) Drain th e engine cooling system (Refer to 7 -
COOLING - STANDARD PROCE DURE - DRAINING
COOLING SYSTEM).
(3) Carefully open one hose t o the un derbody t ube
assembly a nd drain th e rem aining coolan t. A salvage
hose is a good idea to contr ol the residual coolant, as
flow will occur from bot h the cabin heater and the
hose an d t ube a ssem blies.
(4) Remove the second hose from the under body
hose an d t ube a ssem bly.
(5) Loosen th e hose and tube a ssem bly from the
toe-board crossmember at two locations.
(6) Disconn ect the electrical connector from th e
body h arness nea r the toe-board crossmem ber and
rail.
(7) Remove the wiring harness from the toe-board
crossmember (Refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR CON-
DITIONING/CABIN HEATER/HE ATER UNIT -
REMOVAL - WIRE HARNESS).
(8) Open the fuel filler cap. Disconn ect the ru bber
fuel hose between the body tube assembly and the
fuel pump nipple a t the body tube join t. A minim al
amount of fuel may flow fr om the open por t.
NOTE: Utilize an approved fuel storage container to
catch any residual fuel.
(9) Loosen th e two fasteners a t the r ail. Take care
to notice tha t t he exhaust tube bracket ta b is on top
of the h eater bra cket and that t here are two spacer
washer s insta lled between the rubber grom mets.
(10) Remove the flexible section of the cabin
heat er exh aust t ube from the exh aust t ube by loos-
enin g th e clam p. Remove the hose from th e exhaust
tube. Removal of the rail tu be assembly may aid in
this ser vice operation (Refer to 24 - HE ATING & AIR
CONDITIONING/CABIN HE ATER/EXHAUST TUBE
- REMOVAL).
(11) Remove seat hex nu t at t he heater mounting
flan ge to crossmember.
(12) Loosen the rem aining fa st eners which m ount
the exha ust tube assembly to th e veh icle.
(a) Install a suit able su pport device under the
cabin heater a nd secure the cabin hea ter to t he
su pport.
(13) Loosen the rema ining thr ee fasteners t o th e
crossmembers.
(14) Remove the loosened fa steners th at support
the cabin h eater wh ile support ing th e weigh t of th e
heater.
(15) Swing the cabin heater mounting bracket
from between the exhau st br acket an d r ail moun ting
locat ion. Drain a ny residu al coolant from th e cabin
heater.
(16) Remove th e cabin heat er from th e vehicle.
WIRE HARNESS
(1) Raise and support the vehicle while takin g note
of the locat ion of th e flexible exhau st tube section.
(2) Disconn ect t he cabin h eater wire ha rness con-
nector fr om the vehicle wiring h arn ess.
(3) Disconn ect t he cabin h eater wire ha rness con-
nector fr om the dosin g pump.
(4) Disconn ect the t wo cabin hea ter wire ha rness
connect ors from th e cabin heater contr oller.
(5) Remove t wo wiring ha rness retainers from t he
underbody.
(6) Remove t wo wiring ha rness retainers from t he
cabin h eater sh ield.
(7) Carefully route the cabin h eater wire ha rness
out the left side between the heater unit an d the
heater shield.
INSTALLATION
HEATER UNIT
(1) In st all the cabin heater moun tin g bracket
between the exh aust br acket and t he r ail mountin g
locat ion.
(2) Su pport the cabin h eater and insta ll th e fa st en-
ers tha t secu re the cabin hea ter to the mounting
bracket.
(3) In st all the t hree fasten ers to the cr ossmem -
bers. Tight en the M6 fast eners to 7 N·m (62 in. lbs.).
