Front of Shaft 0.020 in. (0.50 mm)
Center of Shaft 0.025 in. (0.63 mm)
Rear of Shaft 0.020 in. (0.50 mm)
note:
Measure front/rear runout approximately 76 mm (3
in.) from the weld seam at each end of the shaft
tube for tube lengths over 30 inches. For tube
lengths under 30 inches, the maximum allowed
runout is 0.50 mm (0.020 in.) for the full length of
the tube.
STANDARD PROCEDURE
PROPELLER SHAFT ANGLE
This procedur e a pplies the fron t a nd rea r pr opeller
sh afts.
(1) Pla ce vehicle in netural.
(2) Raise and su pport vehicle a t the axles as level
as possible.
(3) Remove universal joint sn ap rings if equipped,
so In clinometer 7663 base sits fla t.
(4) Rotat e shaft un til tra nsmission case out put
yoke bearing is fa cing downward.
NOTE: Always make measurements from front to
rear and from the same side of the vehicle.
(5) Pla ce Inclinomet er 7663 on yoke bearing (A)
pa rallel to th e sh aft. Cen ter bubble in sigh t glass an d
record m easurem ent.

sion yoke Output Angle (A).
(6) Rotat e pr opeller shaft 90 degrees an d place
inclinom eter on yoke bearing parallel to t he shaft.
Center bu bble in sight gla ss an d record mea su re-
ment . This measurement can also be t aken a t the
rear end of th e shaft .

Shaft Angle (C).
(7) Rotat e pr opeller shaft 90 degrees an d place
inclinom eter on compa nion flange yoke bea rin g pa r-
allel to th e shaft . Cen ter bu bble in sight glass an d
record m easurem ent.

Flange Input Angle (B).

RULES
Good cancella tion of U-joint operatin g an gles
sh ould be within 1degree.
Operating angles should be less than 3 degrees.
At least 1/2 of on e degree con tinuous operating
(pr opeller sh aft) a ngle.
