AUXILIARY BATTERY REMOVAL
(1) Turn the ignition switch to the Off posit ion. Be
certa in that all electrical accessories are turned off.
(2) Remove t he passenger fr ont seat assembly.
Refer to t he Body section for procedu re.
(3) Remove the top cover from the seat base
assembly.
(4) Loosen th e battery negat ive cable t erminal
clam p pinch-bolt hex nut.
(5) Disconn ect the batt ery negative cable ter minal
clam p from the battery n egat ive termina l post. If
necessar y, use a battery ter minal puller to remove
the t erminal clamp from the batt ery post .
(6) Loosen th e batter y positive cable term inal
clam p pinch-bolt hex nut.
(7) Disconn ect the ba tter y positive cable ter minal
clam p from t he ba tter y positive ter min al post . If nec-
essa ry, u se a battery t erminal puller to remove the
term inal cla mp from th e battery post .
(8) Remove the battery h old down s from the ba t-
tery (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/BATTE RY SYSTE M/
BATTE RY HOLDDOWN - REMOVAL).
WARNING: WEAR A SUITABLE PAIR OF RUBBER
GLOVES (NOT THE HOUSEHOLD TYPE) WHEN
REMOVING A BATTERY BY HAND. SAFETY
GLASSES SHOULD ALSO BE WORN. IF THE BAT-
TERY IS CRACKED OR LEAKING, THE ELECTRO-
LYTE CAN BURN THE SKIN AND EYES.
(9) Remove the batt ery from the batt ery tray.
INSTALLATION
UNDER HOOD BATTERY INSTALLATION
(1) Position the batter y onto the battery t ray.
Ensur e tha t the ba ttery positive and nega tive ter mi-
nal posts are correctly posit ioned. The battery cable
term inal clamps mu st r each th e correct batt ery ter-
minal post without str etching the cables.
(2) Reinstall the ba tter y hold down s ont o the ba t-
tery (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/BATTE RY SYSTE M/
BATTE RY HOLDDOWN - INSTALLATION).
CAUTION: Be certain that the battery cable terminal
clamps are connected to the correct battery termi-
nal posts. Reverse battery polarity may damage
electrical components of the vehicle.
(3) Reconnect t he ba tter y positive cable t erminal
clam p to th e ba ttery positive termina l post. Tight en
the terminal clamp pinch -bolt hex n ut to 11.8 N·m
(105 in. lbs.).
(4) Reconnect the batt ery negat ive cable ter minal
clam p to the batt ery n egat ive t erminal post . Tighten
the term inal cla mp pinch-bolt hex nut to 7.9 N·m (70
in. lbs.).
(5) Apply a thin coating of pet roleu m jelly or chas-
sis grea se to th e exposed surfaces of t he battery cable
term inal cla mps and the bat tery ter min al posts.
AUXILIARY BATTERY INSTALLATION
(1) Position the batter y onto the battery t ray.

(2) Reinstall the ba tter y hold down s ont o the ba t-
tery (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/BATTE RY SYSTE M/
BATTE RY HOLDDOWN - INSTALLATION).
CAUTION: Be certain that the battery cable terminal
clamps are connected to the correct battery termi-
nal posts. Reverse battery polarity may damage
electrical components of the vehicle.

clam p to th e ba ttery positive termina l post. Tight en
the terminal clamp pinch -bolt hex n ut to 11.8 N·m
(105 in. lbs.).
(4) Reconnect the batt ery negat ive cable ter minal
clam p to the batt ery n egat ive t erminal post . Tighten
the term inal cla mp pinch-bolt hex nut to 7.9 N·m (70
in. lbs.).
(5) Apply a thin coating of pet roleu m jelly or chas-
sis grea se to th e exposed surfaces of t he battery cable
term inal cla mps and the bat tery ter min al posts.
(6) In st all th e top cover on th e seat base assembly.
(7) In st all the passenger front seat assembly. Refer
to th e Body sect ion for procedur e.
BAT T ERY H OLDDOWN
DESCRIPTION
The battery hold down hardwa re includes t wo h ex
nuts with washer s a nd two hold down bra ckets. The
batt ery hold down bra cket s ar e for med of sta mped
st eel. The hold down assem bly is coated for corrosion
pr otection.
Whe n ins talling a b atte ry into the b atte ry tray, b e
certa in th at the hold down hardwa re is proper ly
insta lled an d tha t the fasten ers a re tightened t o th e
pr oper specifications. Im proper hold down fasten er
tightn ess, wheth er too loose or too tigh t, can r esult in
da mage to the ba tter y, th e vehicle or bot h.
REMOVAL
(1) Turn the ignition switch to the Off posit ion. Be
certa in that all electrical accessories are turned off.
(2) Remove the t wo nu ts tha t secure the batt ery
hold down br ackets to t he ba tter y tray.
(3) Remove the batt ery hold down br ackets.
