NOTE: The SERVICE CODE is required on every
warranty claim submitted for battery replacement.
STANDARD PROCEDURE - CHECKING BATTERY
ELECTROLYTE LEVEL
(1) Remove the batt ery cell caps (Fig. 7).
(2) Look through the bat tery cap h oles to deter-
mine the level of the electrolyte in th e battery (Fig.
8). The elect rolyte sh ould be a ppr oximately 1 centi-
meter a bove t he bat tery plat es or unt il the hook
inside the battery cap holes is covered.
(3) Add only dist illed water until t he electrolyte
level is approx. one cen timet er above the plates.
REM OVAL
UNDER HOOD BA TTERY REMOVAL
(1) Turn the ignition switch to the Off posit ion. Be
certa in that all electrical accessories are turned off.
(2) Loosen th e battery negat ive cable t erminal
clam p pinch-bolt hex nut.
(3) Disconn ect the batt ery negative cable ter minal
clam p from the battery n egat ive termina l post. If
necessar y, use a battery ter minal puller to remove
the t erminal clamp from the batt ery post .
(4) Loosen th e batter y positive cable term inal
clam p pinch-bolt hex nut.
(5) Disconn ect the ba tter y positive cable ter minal
clam p from t he ba tter y positive ter min al post . If nec-
essa ry, u se a battery t erminal puller to remove the
term inal cla mp from th e battery post .
(6) Remove the battery h old down s from the ba t-
tery (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/BATTE RY SYSTE M/
BATTE RY HOLDDOWN - REMOVAL).
WARNING: WEAR A SUITABLE PAIR OF RUBBER
GLOVES (NOT THE HOUSEHOLD TYPE) WHEN
REMOVING A BATTERY BY HAND. SAFETY
GLASSES SHOULD ALSO BE WORN. IF THE BAT-
TERY IS CRACKED OR LEAKING, THE ELECTRO-
LYTE CAN BURN THE SKIN AND EYES.
(7) Remove the batt ery from the batt ery tray.
