HEATED SEATS
DESCRIPTION
In dividu ally contr olled, electrically hea ted front
seats a re available factory-inst alled option al equ ip-
ment on this model. Veh icles with this option can be
visually identified by th e two sepa rate hea ted sea t
switch es mounted in the instr umen t pa nel. The
heat ed sea t syst em allows the front seat driver and
pa ssen ger to select from two different levels of sup-
plemen tal electrical seat h eating, or no seat h eating
to suit their individu al comfort requiremen ts. The
heat ed sea t system for this veh icle includes the fol-
lowing major components, which are described in fur-
ther det ail later in th is section:
• Heated Seat Elements - Four hea ted sea t ele-
ment s are u sed per vehicle, two for each front seat.
One hea tin g element in the sea t back a nd one in t he
seat cushion. Th e hea ted seat sensor is integral to
the seat cushion h eating element. Th e h eated sea t
elements are integral t o the front seat a nd seat ba ck
cushion s. Refer to heated sea t element s la ter in th is
section for addit iona l in formation.
• Heated Seat Relay -Oneheatedseatrelayis
used per vehicle. The relay is located in the fuse
block and is responsible for distributing the voltage
(B+) t o the heated seat elemen ts.
• Heated Seat Sensors -Twoheatedseatsen-
sor s are used per vehicle, one for each front seat. The
heat ed seat sensors are integral to each of t he heat ed
seat element assemblies. Refer to heated sea t sen sor
lat er in this section for a ddition al inform ation.
• Heated Seat Sw itches -Twoheatedseat
switch es ar e used per vehicle, one for each front seat .
The switches a re m ounted in th e in st rument panel.

Hard wired circu itr y conn ects the heated seat sys-
tem componen ts to each other th rough t he electrical
system of the vehicle. Refer to Wiring for addit ional
information. Th e wir ing infor mation includes wir ing
diagram s, proper wire and connector repair proce-
du res, further deta ils on wire ha rness routing and
retention, as well as pin-out an d locat ion views for
the var ious wire harness connectors, splices a nd
grounds.
OPERATION
The hea ted seat system is designed to provide in di-
vidually cont rolled, supplemen tal heat to the seat
cushion and seat back surfaces of both front seats.
Because this system converts electr ical curr ent to
heat , the h eated seat syst em ca n provide a mea su re
of warm comfort almost immediately upon en tering a
cold vehicle, rather than having to wait for t he
engine coola nt to reach su fficien t temperature to
deliver h eat th rough th e conventional heater system.
This system a llows each front seat occupant to indi-
vidually select one of two comfort levels, Hi or Lo, or
to tu rn the heater for their seat off.
