OPERATION
The input cl u tches (F ig. 80) produce a non-positive
locking con nection between two elements of a plane-
tary gear set or bet ween one element from each of
two planet ary gear sets in or der to t ransm it th e drive
torqu e.
If the piston (20) on mu lti-plat e clutch K1 (1) is
su bjected to oil pressure, it pr esses t he interna l and
externa l discs of the disc set together. The sun gear
(17) is locked with the planet ary car rier (15) via t he
externa lly toothed disc carr ier (19) an d the int erna lly
toothed disc carrier (18). The fr ont plan etar y gear set
is thus locked and t urns a s a closed unit.
If t he mu lti-plat e clutch K2 (2) is actuated via th e
piston (14), th e piston compresses the disc set . Th e
annulus gear (16) of the fron t plan etar y gear set is
locked wit h th e ann ulu s gear (11) of th e cent er pla n-
etar y gear set via t he exter nally tooth ed disc ca rrier
(13) a nd t he center planetary carr ier (10) on wh ich
the interna lly toothed discs are seated. Ann ulus gear
(16) and annulus gea r (11) turn at the sa me speed as
the input shaft (21)
If t he mu lti-plat e clutch K3 (5) is actuated via th e
piston (7), the piston com pr esses th e disc set . The
su n gear (12) of the center pla neta ry gear set is
locked with t he su n gea r (9) of the rea r planetary
gear set via t he exter nally tooth ed disc car rier (6)
and the internally toothed disc ca rrier (8). Sun gear
(12) an d su n gear (9) turn at the sa me speed.
