rela tion to the load an d gear. All other pressures
required for th e transmission control are derived
from the working pressur e.
Lubrication Pressure (p - Sm)
At the working pressure regulating valve surplus
oil is diverted to th e lubrication pressur e r egulat ing
valve, from where it is u sed in regu lated amounts to
lubr icat e and cool t he mech anical tra nsmission com -
pon ents and t he torqu e convert er. Fur ther more, th e
lubr icat ion pressure (p-Sm) is also used to lim it t he
pr essu re in the t orque converter.
Shift Pressure (p - S)
The shift pressur e is determined by the shift pres-
su re r egulating solen oid valve a nd th e shift pressure
regu lat ing valve. The shift pressure:
Regulates the pr essu re in the a ctivating shift
element during the sh ift phase.
Determines t ogeth er wit h the modula tin g pres-
su re the pressu re reduct ion at the deactivating sh ift
element as regulated by the overlap regulating valve.
Initia lizes 2nd gear in lim p-h ome mode.
Modulating Pressure (p - Mod)
The modulating pressu re influences th e size of the
working pressure and determines t ogeth er with t he
sh ift pr essu re the pr essu re regula ted at the overla p
regu lat ing valve. The modu lating pr essu re is regu-
lat ed at t he m odu lating pressur e regulating solen oid
valve, wh ich is under regulating valve pressu re. The
modula tin g pr essu re is variable a nd relative to the
engine load.
Regulating Valve / Control Valve Pressure (p - RV)
Th e r egu la t in g va lve p r essu r e is r egu la t ed a t t h e
regu lat ing valve pressure regula tin g valve in r elation
to th e wor kin g pressu re (p-A) up to a maximu m pres-
su re of 8 ba r (116 psi). It supplies t he modulating
pr essu re regula ting solenoid valve, th e shift pressure
regu lat ing solenoid va lve and t he shift va lve pressur e
regulating valve.
Shift Valve Pressure (p - SV)
The shift valve pressu re (p-SV) is der ived from th e
regu lat ing valve pressur e (p-RV), is regu lat ed at th e
sh ift va lve pressur e regulating valve and is then
presen t a t the:
1-2 and 4-5 shift solenoid valve.
3-4 shift solenoid valve.
2-3 shift solenoid valve.
Torque converter locku p solenoid valve.
3-4 and 2-3 shift pressu re shift valve.
The sh ift valve pressure (p-SV) controls the com-
mand valves via the upshift/downsh ift solenoid
valve s .
Overlap Pressure (p - Ü)
The overla p pr essu re con trols the shift componen t
pr essu re reduction dur ing a shift ph ase. The pres-
su re in a shift elem ent as it disengages is cont rolled
du ring th e shift pha se depending on engine loa d
(modula tin g pr essu re) and th e pressure in t he shift
elem en t a s it en ga ges. Th e a dju st ed pr es su r e is
inversely proport ional t o t he transmission ca pa bility
of the shift elemen t being enga ged (controlled over-
lap).
Working Pressure Regulating Valve (Operating Pressure)
The wor king pressur e regulating valve (4) (Fig.
101) is locat ed in the valve housing of the shift plat e.
It regula tes the primar y pressure of th e h ydraulic
system.
