tion
Usin g a test thermom eter, check t he tem per atu re
of th e air being discharged at the floor outlets. Com-
pa re the test thermometer reading to the Temper a-
ture Reference cha rt.
TEMPERATURE REFERENCE CHART
Ambient Temperature Minimum Floor Outlet Temperature
Celsius Fahreheit Celsius Fahreheit
15.5° 60° 62.2° 144°
21.1° 70° 63.8° 147°
26.6° 80° 65.5° 150°

If the floor outlet air tem perat ure is insufficien t,
check for a fa ulty heater va lve (perform ATC Fun c-
tion Test) an d verify that the cooling system is oper-
ating to specificat ions (Refer to7-COOLING/
ENGINE/COOLANT - DIAGNOSIS AND TE STING).
Both of the h eater h oses should be HOT to the tou ch
(the coolant ret urn heater hose sh ould be slight ly
cooler than t he supply hose. If the coola nt ret urn
hose is much cooler than the su pply h ose, locate and
repair the engine coolan t flow obstruction in the
heater system.
POSSIBLE LOCATIONS OR CAUSE OF
OBSTRUCTED COOLANT FLOW
• Pinch ed or kinked heater hoses.
• Improper hea ter hose routing.
• Plugged heater hoses or supply and ret urn ports
at the coolin g system connect ions.
• Inoper ative or stu ck hea ter water valve.
• Plugged h eater core.
If proper coolan t flow is verified, a nd heat er floor
outlet air tempera ture is insufficient , a m echan ical
pr oblem ma y exist.
POSSIBLE LOCATIONS OR CAUSE OF INSUFFI-
CIENT HEAT
• An obst ructed cowl air int ake.
• Obstructed hea ter system outlets.
• Heater water valve n ot functioning proper ly.
TEMPERA TURE CONTROL
If ou tlet air tem per ature ca nnot be a djusted with
the A/C-h eater tem perat ure contr ol, one of the follow-
ing could require ser vice:
• Faulty A/C-hea ter control switch.
• Faulty temper atur e sensor.
• Faulty A/C-hea ter control cable or act uator.
• Faulty A/C-hea ter control module.
ATC FUNCTION TEST
The au toma tic tempera ture cont rol (ATC) system
can perform an self-test, wh ich can be activated by
the DRBIII! scan tool to confirm tha t t he A/C system
is per forming satisfactorily. This test provides a
quick confirmation of hea tin g and A/C system perfor-
mance t o the ser vice t echnician. Refer to Body Dia g-
nostic Procedu res for the a ppropriat e diagn ost ic
information.
