Mode control in the floor hea t position
Blower m otor cont rol in the high est speed posi-
tion
Usin g a test thermom eter, check t he tem per atu re
of th e air being discharged at the floor outlets. Com-
pa re the test thermometer reading to the Temper a-
ture Reference cha rt.

If the floor outlet air tem perat ure is insufficien t,
check for a fa ulty heater va lve (perform ATC Fun c-
tion Test) an d verify that the cooling system is oper-
ating to specificat ions (Refer to7-COOLING/
ENGINE/COOLANT - DIAGNOSIS AND TE STING).
Both of the h eater h oses should be HOT to the tou ch
(the coolant ret urn heater hose sh ould be slight ly
cooler than t he supply hose. If the coola nt ret urn
hose is much cooler than the su pply h ose, locate and
repair the engine coolan t flow obstruction in the
heater system.
POSSIBLE LOCATIONS OR CAUSE OF
OBSTRUCTED COOLANT FLOW
Pinch ed or kinked heater hoses.
Improper hea ter hose routing.
Plugged heater hoses or supply and ret urn ports
at the coolin g system connect ions.
Inoper ative or stu ck hea ter water valve.
Plugged h eater core.
If proper coolan t flow is verified, a nd heat er floor
outlet air tempera ture is insufficient , a m echan ical
pr oblem ma y exist.
POSSIBLE LOCATIONS OR CAUSE OF INSUFFI-
CIENT HEAT
An obst ructed cowl air int ake.
Obstructed hea ter system outlets.
Heater water valve n ot functioning proper ly.
TEMPERA TURE CONTROL
If ou tlet air tem per ature ca nnot be a djusted with
the A/C-h eater tem perat ure contr ol, one of the follow-
ing could require ser vice:
Faulty A/C-hea ter control switch.
Faulty temper atur e sensor.
Faulty A/C-hea ter control cable or act uator.
Faulty A/C-hea ter control module.
ATC FUNCTION TEST
The au toma tic tempera ture cont rol (ATC) system
can perform an self-test, wh ich can be activated by
the DRBIII! scan tool to confirm tha t t he A/C system
is per forming satisfactorily. This test provides a
quick confirmation of hea tin g and A/C system perfor-
mance t o the ser vice t echnician. Refer to Body Dia g-
nostic Procedu res for the a ppropriat e diagn ost ic
information.
