is ener gized, it draws the movable comm on feed r elay
contact away from th e fixed, normally closed relay
contact and, holds it again st the fixed, norma lly open
rela y contact. This a ction a llows h igh curren t to flow
to th e electric cooling fan motor.
When the relay coil is de-en ergized, spring pres-
su re ret urns t he movable relay contact back a gainst
the fixed, n orma lly closed cont act point. The resistor
or diode is con nected in parallel with the relay coil,
and h elps to dissipate voltage spikes a nd electrom ag-
netic interfer ence th at can be gen erat ed as t he elec-
tromagnetic field of the r elay coil collapses.
The rea r A/C conden ser fan relay t erminals a re
connect ed to the vehicle electrical syst em throu gh a
recepta cle in the relay block loca ted in t he rear A/C
evapor ator hou sing.
The rea r A/C con denser fan relay cannot be
repaired a nd, if faulty or dam aged, it must be
repla ced. Refer t o the appropriate wirin g information
for dia gnosis and testing of the ISO-stan da rd relay
and for complete HVAC wiring diagrams.
REMOVAL
(1) Disconn ect and isolate the negat ive ba tter y
cable.
(2) Remove th e air filter from the rea r A/C evapo-
rator hou sing (Refer t o 24 - H EATING & AIR CON-
DITIONING/DISTRIBUTION - REAR/AIR F ILTER -
REMOVAL).
(3) Reach up int o the rear A/C evaporator hou sing
and remove the r ear A/C con den ser fan relay from
the r elay block (Fig. 4).
