INSTALLATION
NOTE: Be certain to add refrigerant oil if the rear
A/C evaporator is being replaced. The refrigerant oil
must be drained from the old evaporator and mea-
sured to determine the amount of refrigerant oil to
add to the new evaporator. Use only refrigerant oil
of the type recommended for the rear A/C compres-
sor in the vehicle.
(1) If the rear A/C evaporator is being replaced,
insta ll th e cor rect amount an d type of refrigerant oil
into th e new rear A/C evapora tor. Dr ain the old evap-
orator and measure th e refrigera nt oil. Fill the new
evapor ator wit h t he same a mount of new r efrigera nt
oil t hat wa s dr ained ou t of the old eva por ator.
(2) With h elp fr om an assist ant, position and su p-
por t the rea r A/C evaporator hou sing in to the vehicle.
(3) In spect the four ru bber damping washer s for
correct sea lin g. Replace the wash ers as requir ed.
CAUTION: Be sure to install the rear A/C system
ground lead with one of the rear evaporator hous-
ing retaining bolts. Failure to correctly install the
ground lead could result in improper operation or
possible damage to the rear A/C system.
(4) Position t he grou nd lead to t he rear A/C eva p-
orator h ousing and install th e four bolts and washers
and four damping washer s that secure t he eva pora-
tor housing to the roof pa nel. Tighten the bolts to 25
N·m (18 ft. lbs.).
(5) In st all the nine screws tha t secur e the rea r A/C
evapor ator housing to the roof pan el. Tigh ten the
scr ews to 5 N·m (45 in. lbs.).
(6) Unplug and conn ect the t wo rea r evapora tor
dr ain hoses.
(7) Remove the ta pe or plugs from th e refriger ant
lin e fittings and th e rea r expansion valve and evap-
orator tube ports.
(8) Lubricate a n ew O-ring sea l wit h clea n refr ig-
eran t oil a nd install it onto t he rear liquid line fit-
ting. Use only the specified O-ring seal as it is made
of a special m ater ial for th e R-134a system . Use on ly
refriger ant oil of the type recom mended for the r ear
A/C compressor in the vehicle.
(9) Connect the rea r liqu id lin e to the rear A/C
expan sion valve. Tight en th e liqu id line nut to 35
N·m (26 ft. lbs.).
