INSTALLATION
NOTE: The A/C liquid line is serviced in two sec-
tions. The front section connects between the A/C
condenser and the receiver/drier and includes the
high side service port and the A/C pressure trans-
ducer on the fitting for the receiver/drier. The rear
section connects between the receiver/drier and the
A/C expansion valve.
FRONT SECTION
(1) Position the front sect ion of th e A/C liquid line
into the engine com pa rtmen t.
(2) Remove the tape or plugs from the liquid lin e
fitting and t he receiver/drier inlet port.
(3) Lubricate a new rubber O-rin g seal with clean
refriger ant oil and insta ll it on the liqu id line fit tin g.
(4) Connect t he front section of th e liqu id lin e t o
the r eceiver/drier.
(5) In st all t he bolt that secures the liquid line fit-
ting to t he receiver /dr ier. Tighten th e bolt to 7 N·m
(62 in . lbs.).
(6) Position the front section of th e liquid line into
the rou ting clip and install the routin g clip onto the
body stu d on the left frame rail.
(7) In st all the r outing clip retaining nut . Tighten
the n ut to 5 N·m (45 in. lbs.).
(8) Remove the ta pe or plugs from th e condenser
outlet port and t he liquid line fitting.
(9) Lubricate a n ew O-ring sea l wit h clea n refr ig-
eran t oil a nd insta ll it on the liquid line fitt ing.
(10) Connect th e liqu id lin e fitting to the con-
denser out let port on th e right side of the condenser.
(11) In st all the n ut th at secures the liqu id line fit-
ting t o the condenser. Tigh ten th e nu t to 17 N·m (12
ft. lbs.).

RECEI V ER / DRI ER
DESCRIPTION
The receiver/drier is mou nted in a bracket secured
to th e left front stru t tower in t he engine compar t-
ment . The receiver /dr ier is connect ed between th e
front and r ear sections of the A/C liqu id line between
the con denser outlet and t he evaporator inlet.
The receiver/drier can not be r epair ed. If th e receiv-
er/drier is faulty or dam aged, or if the r efrigera nt
system ha s been contamina ted or left open to the
atmosphere for an indet erminable period or if th e
compressor ha s fa iled, it must be repla ced.
OPERATION
The receiver/drier perform s a filter ing act ion to
pr event foreign material in the refriger ant from con-
taminat ing th e A/C expansion valve. Refriger ant
enters th e receiver/drier a s a h igh -pressu re, low tem-
perat ure liqu id. Desiccan t inside the r eceiver/drier
absorbs any moistur e which m ay have en tered and
become tra pped within the refr iger ant syst em. In
addition, during periods of high dem and operation of
the A/C system, th e receiver/drier acts a s a reservoir
to stor e surplus refr iger ant.
