POWER STEERING FLUID
No fluid service requir ed. Filled with Power Steer-
ing Flu id approved to MB 236.3, such as Mobil
ATF-D (Exxon Mobil Corpor ation) or equ iva lent .
OPERATION - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
FLUID
The a utoma tic transmission fluid is selected ba sed
upon severa l qu alities. The fluid must provide a high
level of pr otection for the int erna l compon ents by
pr oviding a lubrica ting film between adjacent meta l
components. The fluid must a lso be ther mally stable
so that it can m ain tain a consistent viscosity through
a lar ge tem perat ure ra nge. If the viscosity stays con -
st ant t hrough th e temper ature ra nge of oper ation,
transmission opera tion and shift feel will rem ain con-
sistent. Tra nsmission fluid must a lso be a good con-
du ctor of hea t. The fluid must absorb heat from the
internal tr ansmission components and transfer th at
heat t o the tra nsmission case.

DESCRIPTION SPECIFICATION
POWER STEERING SYSTEM
Power steering fluid capacities are dependent on
engine/chassis options as well as steering gear/cool-
er options. Depending on type and size of internal
cooler, length and inside diameter of cooler lines, or
use of an auxiliary cooler, these capacities may vary.
Refer to 19, Steering for proper fill and bleed proce-
dures.
FLU I D FI LL / CH ECK LOCA-
TIONS
INSPECTION - FLUID FILL / CHECK LOCA-
TIONS
The fluid fill/check locat ions a nd lubrication points
are located in each a pplicable group.
HOISTING
STANDARD PROCEDURE - HOISTING
Refer to the Owners Manual for em ergency vehicle
lift ing procedur es.
WARNING: THE HOISTING AND JACK LIFTING
POINTS PROVIDED ARE FOR A COMPLETE VEHI-
CLE. WHEN A CHASSIS OR DRIVETRAIN COMPO-
NENT IS REMOVED FROM A VEHICLE, THE
CENTER OF GRAVITY IS ALTERED MAKING SOME
HOISTING CONDITIONS UNSTABLE. PROPERLY
SUPPORT OR SECURE VEHICLE TO HOISTING
DEVICE WHEN THESE CONDITIONS EXIST.
FLOOR JACK
When properly positioned, a floor jack can be u sed
to lift a vehicle. Support t he vehicle in the ra ised
position with jack stands at t he fron t a nd rear ends
of the fram e rails.
CAUTION: Do not lift vehicle with a floor jack posi-
tioned under:
An axle tube.
A body side sill.
A steering linkage component.
A drive shaft.
The engine or transmission oil pan.
The fuel tank.
A front suspension arm.
