SEAL - PI N I ON
REMOVAL
(1) Remove wheels.
(2) Push back br ake pads and release hand br ake.
NOTE: If it is not possible to spin rear axle shafts
manually, detach rear brake cables.
(3) Drain rea r axle oil.
NOTE: On dual rear wheel axle remove axle shafts.
(4) Remove propeller sha ft.
(5) Spin pinion flange by hand an d check axia l
play of bea ring.
CAUTION: There must not be any thrust bearing
play. If play excess or there are particles (shavings)
in the drained oil, replace gear assembly.
(6) Measur e an d record torqu e to rotate the pinion.
(7) Mark pinion position t o pinion flange (1) (Fig.
57).
(8) Unlock collar ed nut.
(9) Hold pin ion fla nge (1) with Fla nge Wrench
C-3281 a nd rem ove nu t.
(10) Remove pinion flan ge (1) from pinion sha ft
with F lange Pu ller 8992 (2) (Fig. 58).
(11) Check sealing surfa ces of join t flan ge for score
marks an d r eplace joint fla nge if necessary.
(12) Remove pin ion seal/seals (1) (Fig. 59).
