St art engine a nd a cceler ate ra pidly three times, to
approximately 3000 rpm while observing coolan t. If
internal en gin e combu st ion gases ar e leaking into
coolin g system, bu bbles will a ppea r in coolant . If bub-
bles do not appea r, in ternal combustion gas leakage
is not present.
STAN DARD PROCEDU RE
ADDING ADDITIONAL COOLANT
The use of aluminum cylinder blocks, cylinder
heads and wa ter pu mps requires special corrosion
pr otection. Only Mopar! Antifreeze/Coolant, 5
Yea r/100,000 Mile Formula (glycol ba se coolant with
corrosion inhibitors called H OAT, for Hybr id Or ganic
Additive Techn ology) is recommended. Th is coolant
offers t he best engine coolin g with out corrosion when
mixed wit h 50% distilled water t o obtain to obtain a
freeze point of -37°C (-35°F). If it loses color or
becomes contaminated, drain, flush, and r eplace with
fresh properly m ixed coolant solution.
CAUTION: Do not use coolant additives that are
claimed to improve engine cooling.
DRAINING COOLING SYSTEM
WARNING: Do not remove the cylinder block drain
plug or loosen the radiator drain plug with system
hot and under pressure. Serious burns from coolant
can occur.
(1) DO NOT remove coola nt recovery pr essu re con-
tainer cap first. With engine cold, ra ise vehicle on a
hoist an d locate radiator draincock.
NOTE: Radiator draincock is located on the left/
lower side of radiator.
(2) Attach one end of a h ose to the dr ain cock (F ig.
3). Put the oth er end into a clean an d appropr iately
marked cont ain er. Open draincock and dra in coolant
from ra diator. This will empty t he coolant recovery
pr essu re cont ain er first. Th e coolant does not h ave t o
be removed from the conta iner unless th e system is
being r efilled with a fresh mixture. When con tainer
is empty, r emove cap and continue dra ining cooling
system.
To dr ain the engine of coola nt, loosen t he cylinder
block drain plug locat ed on the side of cylinder block
(Fig. 3).
