REFILLING COOLING SYSTEM
(1) Tighten the r adiator dr ain and the cylinder
block drain plu g(s) (if rem oved). Tigh ten t he engine
dr ain plu g to 30 N·m (22 lbs. ft.).
(2) Fill system u sing a 50/50 m ixture of ethylene-
glycol an tifreeze an d low m ineral con tent wat er. Fill
radiator to top and add sufficient coolant to th e cool-
ant recover y pressur e container to raise level to
COLD MIN IMU M m a r k.
(3) With heat er control unit i n the HEAT position,
operat e engine with con tainer cap in place.
(4) After en gine has reached norm al operat ing
temper ature, shut engine off and allow it to cool.
When engine is coolin g down, coolant will be drawn
into the radiator from the pressu re cont ainer.
(5) Add coola nt to pressur e container a s necessary.
On l y a d d c o o la nt t o t h e c o nt a in er w h en t h e
engine is cold. Coolant level in a warm engine
will be higher due to thermal expansion. To
pu rge t he cooling system of all air, th is heat up/cool
down cycle (a dding coola nt to cold engine) mu st be
performed three tim es. Add necessa ry coolant to r aise
container level to the COLD MINIMUM mark after
each cool down period.
COOLAN T LEV EL SEN SOR
REMOVAL
WARNING: Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to
scalding from hot coolant. Do not open the cooling
system unless the temperature is below 194°f
(90°c). Wear protective clothing and eye wear. Risk
of poisoning if coolant is swallowed. Store coolant
in proper and appropriately marked containers.
NOTE: Drain coolant from radiator drain plug only.
(1) Drain coolant unt il the coola nt r eservoir is
em pt ied.
(2) Disconn ect t he wiring harness electrical con-
nector.
