4. Safety wiring methods

Nuts, bolts, and screws are safety wired with the single wire or double twist method. The safety
wiring method is related to the installation.
- The double twist method is the most common method of safety wiring.
- The single wire method is used on small screws in a closely spaced pattern, on parts in
electrical systems, and in areas difficult to reach.
Refer to Fig. 70 - 1 for the safety wiring methods:
 [1], [2], and [5] – the applicable method of safety wiring bolts, screws, square head
plugs, and similar parts when wired in pairs.
 [3] – components wired in series.
 [4] – applicable method for wiring castellated nuts and studs (no loop around the nut).
 [6] and [7] – a single threaded component wired to a housing or lug.
 [8] – components in a closely spaced closed pattern, using the single wire method.
