79-00-00 Engine Oil System
1. General
This chapter contains information about the engine lubrication system and its components.
For the approved engine oils refer to the Operation Manual applicable to the engine model.
Only engine oils specified in the Operation Manual are approved by
Austro Engine GmbH for operation. If other types of oil are used, this will lead to
rejection of warranty claims by Austro Engine GmbH.
Engine oil information:
Oil volume (initial filling) 7.5 l
Oil volume (continuously) min. 5 l
max. 7 l
2. System Description/Operation
The lubrication system lubricates, cleans, and cools the engine moving parts to reduce wear and
provide operating conditions.
The lubricating system consists of:
- An internal chain driven oil pump
- Oil filter
- Coolant/oil heat exchanger and
- Lubrication ports of the engine.
The oil sump is located at the bottom of the engine and is the oil reservoir.
The oil pump pressurises and pushes the oil through the oil filter, the coolant/oil heat exchanger, and
the lubrication ports of the engine.
The breather line and the oil separator are installed below the injector cover.
The oil separator in the breather line removes oil from the air that vents from the crankcase.
Downstream the oil separator, the crankcase air vents through the breather line into the environment.
The outlet of the oil separator at the injector cover is connected to a breather line provided as part of
the airframe. The oil separator is protected with an overpressure relief valve.
The oil filter collects particles such as debris and combustion byproducts from the oil to prevent wear
and damage to the engine parts.
Then the oil flows into the coolant oil heat exchanger. From the heat exchanger, the oil is pumped to
the engine components. Then the oil drains back into the oil sump.
The oil pressure is measured upstream of the oil filter.
The oil temperature is measured in the oil sump next to the oil filler neck.
