Turbocharging
81-00-00 System Description
1. General
This chapter contains information about the turbocharger system and procedures how to
remove/install, examine, and adjust the Turbocharger system.
2. Charged Air System
The charged air system recovers energy from the exhaust gas in order to increase intake air pressure
and engine performance using a turbocharger.
The charged air system consists of:
– Air filter
– Intake valves
– Inlet manifold
– Turbocharger
– Intercooler
– Exhaust valves
– Exhaust manifold
Fig. 81 - 1 Air Intake system
The charged air system supplies the engine with compressed air. The maximum manifold pressures
are up to 2660 mbar (38.6 psi) for model E4 and 2750 mbar (39.9 psi) for model E4P. The actual
manifold pressure varies with altitude and power setting.
The air flows into the turbocharger through the air filter and the alternate intake valve.
