B. Double wire locking
There are two methods for double safety wiring:
- By hand
- With pliers.
(a) Double wire locking by hand
Pull the wire through the first bolt.
Bend one end of the wire around the head of
the bolt [1] to bolt [2].
The direction must be such that
when you pull the twisted wire to the
bolt [2], this will cause the bolt [1] to
tighten.
Twist the outer wire under the other wire near
to the bolt [1].
Continue to twist the wire clockwise.
Keep the strands apart to twist the
wire tight even.
When the twisted pair touches the bolt [2]
without tension, put the wire in the bolt hole.
The direction must be such that
when the bolt [2] begins to loosen, it
will pull the first bolt tight.
Bend the free wire around the head of the bolt
[2].
Twist the wires counterclockwise.
Twist the wires beyond the bolt to
make a pigtail.
Keep a minimum of three twists.
Bend the pigtail over against the part being
safety wired to prevent it from becoming a
snag.
Make sure that no debris enters the
engine by any opening.
