C. Visually examine the Alternator Housing and Pulley
Detail Steps/Work Items

Examine the alternator housing for:
– Mechanical damages (cracks,
broken casing ribs, damages
threads, etc.)
If you find damages on the housing,
which cause incorrect operation, cooling,
or rigidity of the alternator, replace the
alternator.
(2)
Examine the rills for damages.
Refer to Fig. 24 - 8.
(3)
Turn the pulley by hand jerkily in
clockwise direction.
The rotor shall accelerate smoothly and
without a steady sound.
(4)
Examine the alternator bearings:
– Turn the alternator
counterclockwise.
The alternator rotor shall turn smoothly
without scraping noise.
When you turn the alternator by hand,
the revolutions must be regular.
(5)
Examine the freewheeling of the pulley as
follows:
– Turn the pulley by hand jerkily
counterclockwise.
After overriding the static friction, the
rotor shall not accelerate anymore.
This freewheeling mechanism shall work
smoothly and without scratching noises.
