Troubleshooting Information
1. General
The table below lists the possible defects of the alternator system. If you have the trouble detailed in
the Trouble column, read across to the Possible Cause column. Then do the repair in the Repair
column.

Alternator provides no
electrical power
Alternator defective.
Replace alternator.
Voltage regulator defective.
Replace voltage regulator.
V-Ribbed belt broken.
Replace the V-Ribbed belt.
Refer to Section 85-40-00.
Alternator ring terminal B+
broken.
Complete a check of the alternator
Diodes.
Replace alternator.
- For Alternator E4A-91-000-000,
refer to Paragraph I.
- For Alternator E4A-91-400-000,
refer to Paragraph H.
Refer to Airplane Maintenance
Manual.
Brushes worn/stuck.
Replace the brush holder.
- For Alternator E4A-91-000-000,
refer to 24-30-00.
- For Alternator E4A-91-400-000,
refer to 24-31-00.
Excitation line not connected.
Connect the excitation line.
