(b) Double wire locking with pliers
Torque the bolts and carefully align the bolt
holes.
Insert the wire through the hole in the first
bolt.
Select sufficient size of wire.
Bend the wire that comes out of the bottom
hole clockwise around the bolt head and under
the other end of the wire.
Pull the loop tightly in the direction of the
second bolt. Hold both ends of the wire. Twist
them clockwise by hand until the braid is short
of the second bolt.
Make sure that the loop continues to
be tight in place around the first bolt.
Hold the wire with needle nose pliers adjacent
to the hole it will go in on the second bolt.
Keep the two wires together in the
pliers jaws (no gap between them).
The braid must be sufficiently tightened and resistant to friction or vibration
wear, but should not be overtightened.
Overtightened wire can easily weaken or break.
Pull the safety wire twist-knob to twist the
wire.
Hold the pliers to prevent it from
twisting back and let the knob
retract. Repeat until you obtain the
necessary twist.
Insert the upper end of the wire through the
hole in the second bolt.
Use the needle nose pliers.
Pull the wire until it is tight.
Bend the other end of the wire
counterclockwise around the head of the
second bolt.
Hold the wires with the pliers and twist them in
a counterclockwise direction.
Make sure you keep the wire under
tension.
With a last twisting step, bend the braid to the
right and against the head of the bolt.
Three to six twists must remain.
Make sure there are no sharp ends.
Make sure that no debris enters the
engine by any opening.
