85 – System Description
Two-Mass Flywheel
A torsion vibration damper is installed between gearbox and crankshaft.
It has two elements:
- a mass that is resistant to acceleration of the vibration
- an energy dissipating element that absorbs the vibrations.
The two-mass flywheels are different for different engines and have the following functions:
- prevents the crankshaft from vibrations coming from the propeller
- prevents the gearbox from vibrations coming from the crankshaft and the combustion
process.
Crankshaft
The crankshaft of the E4 engine is made of vacuum remolded, forged steel. The crankshaft has five
main bearings.

Injector Cover
The E4 engine has two types of Injector Cover:
- with maintenance lid installed
- without maintenance lid.
