Security is an important aspect of VoIP telephony. The table below shows the three se-
curity objectives of data protection, authentication and integrity as well as ways of
achieving those objectives:

With these considerations it is important to note that the voice data and the signalling
data do not always run in parallel and may well take separate paths, as the following
example shows:
