Step 1
a Remove any debris from the paper path.
b Reseat the interface cable that is plugged into the printer.
c Reset the printer.
Does the problem remain?
Go to step 2. The problem is solved.
Step 2
a Make sure that the sensor (SHPF staple unit carriage center) and
sensor (SHPF staple unit carriage home) are properly installed.
b Make sure that the sensors are free of debris or dust.
c Reseat the cable on the sensors. Check the cable for damage, and
replace if necessary.
d Check the sensors for damage.
Are the sensors free of damage?
Go to step 3. Go to step 7.
Step 3
a Bypass the SHPF front door switch.
b Enter the Diagnostics menu, and then navigate to:
SENSOR TESTS > Staple and Hole Punch Finisher Sensor Tests >
Stapler home or Stapler center
c Toggle the sensor.
Does the sensor status change while toggling the sensor?
Go to step 5. Go to step 4.
Step 4
Replace the sensor. See
“SHPF staple unit position sensors removal” on
page 369.
Does the problem remain?
Go to step 5. The problem is solved.
Step 5
a Remove the staple unit.
b Make sure that the staple unit assembly belts, gears, and rail are
properly installed.
c Rotate the knob and check the staple unit carriage for proper
movement.
d Check the belts and gears for wear or damage, and replace if
necessary. See
“SHPF staple unit drive belt and gear removal” on
page 370.
e Check the rail for wear or damage, and replace if necessary.
Does the problem remain?
Go to step 6. The problem is solved.
