Maintenance Philosophy
Overview: The maintenance philosophy is built on gathering FT-2000 OC-48
Lightwave System information at two levels. The first maintenance level is a local
visual inspection of the user panel (and the circuit pack LEDs when the cover is
removed.) Most internal hardware problems can be detected and corrected at this
level. The second maintenance level requires a craft interface terminal (CIT) to
obtain detailed information on the FT-2000 network elements. The CIT retrieves
detailed reports about performance monitoring, alarms and status, and configurations
for the local and remote FT-2000 network elements. Performance monitoring is not
accessible at the FT-2000 repeater bay/shelf.
Trouble Analysis Procedures
The trouble analysis procedures in this document involve replacing faulty circuit
packs and obtaining performance reports and/or alarm and status reports for analysis
to determine the status of the FT-2000 System. If a trouble cannot be corrected, the
procedures direct the technician to obtain help. This means that the trouble is of a
nature that requires local maintenance engineering or a higher level technical
assistance.
RTAC Assistance
The technician must make the decision regarding trouble analysis, corrective action,
and obtaining assistance. The technician and the local technical support staff may
choose to continue trouble analysis based on their knowledge or experience on the
FT-2000 System, or they may elect to obtain assistance by calling the Regional
Technical Assistance Center 1-800-225-RTAC in accordance with local procedures.
CARES Assistance
The CTS organization provides an online system, the Customer Assistance Request
Entry System (CARES), to track all customer assistance requests. The CTS CARES
communicates details about assistance requests, product bulletins, and other critical
information to customer sites. To access this site, customers will need a Customer
Web Access login. To inquire about obtaining a CTS CARES Customer Web Access
login, please visit us at http://www.lucent.com/support.
Diagnostic Dictionary
The Diagnostic Dictionary tool gives the user access to previously detected
symptoms, problems, temporary fixes, cautions, and solutions. These may be
usable in diagnosing, correcting, or avoiding an FT-2000 System problem.
