Transmit Functions 7
The OC48 TRMTR A/D circuit pack performs the following transmit functions:
a. Accepts sixteen 155.52 Mb/s signals from the service DS3 and STS1E
circuit packs, one 155.52 Mb/s signal from the protection DS3 circuit pack,
and one 155.52 Mb/s signal from the protection STS1E circuit pack
b. Demultiplexes the sixteen 155.52 Mb/s signals to 48 STS-1 signals,
cross-connects the STS-1 signals to time slots in the OC-48 signal, and
remultiplexes the 48 STS-1 signals to sixteen 155.52 Mb/s signals (739B5,
739C5, 739E[1-16], 739G[1-8], 739H[1-16], 739J5, 739P5, 739R5, and
739S5 OC48 TRMTR A/D circuit packs only)
c. Inserts the SONET transport overhead bytes
d. Bit-interleaves sixteen 155.52 Mb/s signals to produce a SONET standard
STS-48 signal
e. Modulates a laser transmitter to produce a SONET standard OC-48 optical
signal.
Timing and Control Functions 7
The OC48 TRMTR A/D circuit pack performs the following timing and control
functions:
a. Selects the primary or secondary 155.52 MHz synchronization signal from
the TG3 (DS1) circuit packs
b. Provides selector circuitry for low speed protection switching
c. Provides selector circuitry at the primary node for dual ring interworking
protection switching
d. Accepts up to eight 155.52 Mb/s signals from the OC48 RCVR A/D circuit
pack in the opposite direction during line switches in bidirectional ring
applications
e. Allows access to the protection OC-48 high speed line (OC-48
point-to-point applications) or protection 155.52 Mb/s signals (STS-3
tributaries in 2-fiber bidirectional ring applications) for low priority traffic or
for restoration purposes
f. Performs internal fault detection and interfaces with the LNCTL circuit pack
using the BCLAN
g. Controls the circuit pack faceplate FAULT LED
h. Stores inventory information (CLEI code, serial number, etc.).
