STS-1 Path Parameters 9
The following STS-1 path parameters are monitored:
â–  Path(B3)/PathFarEnd(FEBE)CodingViolations(CV-PandCV-F):To
monitor the performance of the STS-1 path, the "B3" byte in the STS-1
path overhead is written when the path is originated and is checked for
errors when the path is terminated. The B3 coding violation counter is
incremented for each error detected. Up to eight errors can be detected in
each STS-1 path. The near end path (B3) terminating status is relayed
back to the originating end where it is monitored as far end path (FEBE).
â–  Path (B3)/Path Far End (FEBE) Errored Seconds (ES-P and ES-F):An
STS-1 path (B3) errored second (ES) is a second in which there are one or
more B3 parity violations, one or more STS-1 path AIS defects, or one or
more STS-1 path LOP defects. A path far end (FEBE) errored second (ES)
is a second in which there are one or more FEBE coding violations or one
or more remote defect indicator-path (RDI-P) defects.
â–  Path (B3)/Path Far End (FEBE) Severely Errored Seconds (SES-P and
SES-F): An STS-1 path (B3) severely errored second (SES) is a second in
which there are nine or more B3 parity violations, one or more STS-1 path
AIS defects, or one or more STS-1 path LOP defects. A path far end
(FEBE) severely errored second (SES) is a second in which there are nine
or more FEBE coding violations or one or more RDI-P defects.
â–  Path (B3)/Path Far End (FEBE) Unavailable Seconds (UAS-P and
UAS-F): An unavailable second (UAS) is a second during which the STS-1
path is "unavailable." Unavailable seconds are counted after 10
consecutive path (B3)/path far end (FEBE) severely errored seconds
(SES). These 10 severely errored seconds are counted, and each
subsequent second is counted until there are 10 consecutive seconds
without a severely errored second. The 10 consecutive seconds without a
severely errored second are not counted as unavailable seconds.
A threshold crossing alert (TCA) is generated if an STS-1 path (B3)/far end
(FEBE) parameter exceeds the provisionable threshold. The generation of TCAs
can be enabled or disabled using the PERFORMANCE-Set-PM
Threshold-STS1 input.
