User Login Security 8
User login security provides the capability to control access to the FT-2000 OC-48
Lightwave System on an individual user basis. User login security includes the
following:
■ Login ID and password: All users must properly identify themselves by
providing a valid login ID and password before gaining access to the
FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System.
■ Four levels of access privileges: Each user login ID is assigned one of
the following access levels to control which system functions may be
performed.
— Privileged/Expert: In Release 4.1 and later releases, a privileged
login gains access to the "expert" input set by invoking the CIT-PC
program in the expert mode. A privileged login in the expert mode
has access to all the system functional capabilities. A privileged
login in the expert mode is also allowed to execute the auto turnup
tests and specify certain inputs that affect all low-speed ports in the
system (for example, inputs that have the potential for massive
service interruption).
— Privileged: In Release 4.1 and later releases, privileged logins have
access to all system functional capabilities except those with
potential for massive service interruption. In releases prior to
Release 4.1, the privileged logins have access to all the system
functional capabilities. Only the privileged logins have access to the
security and access functions. These functions include
assigning/changing logins/passwords for other users,
enabling/disabling ports, setting target identifier (TID) names, and
resetting the system. There are only two privileged logins.
— General: The general logins have access to all the system functional
capabilities except the security, access, system initialization, and
software installation functions. In Release 4.1 and later releases,
general logins do not have access to the Set-Date input.
— Reports Only: The reports only logins have access to the
Retrieve, Set-Password, Test-LED, and Operate-Alarm
Cutoff inputs. The reports only logins are not allowed to change
any of the system provisioning values; however, reports only logins
may change their password.
For information about the security level associated with each CIT-PC input,
refer to the appropriate Inputs (Commands) Menu table in Volume I,
Section 11, "Craft Interface Terminal Usage.”
■ Visitor Logins: In Release 5 and later releases, visitor logins may be
provisioned with expiration dates. Visitor logins are automatically deleted
on the provisioned expiration date regardless of their use. Visitor logins are
general or reports only logins.
