STS-1 Cross-Connection Restrictions 8
STS-1 cross-connections have the following restrictions:
■ The FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal must be equipped with
Release 7.0.0-ADR or later software.
■ The FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal must be equipped with the
OC48 Receivers, Add/Drop [OC48 RCVR (A/D)] 839B5 or 839E5 and the
following compatible OC48 Transmitter circuit packs:
— OC48 Transmitter, Add/Drop - 1.3 µm Standard Performance
[OC48 TRMTR (A/D STS1 1.3 STD)] 739B5
— OC48 Transmitter, Add/Drop - 1.3 µm High Performance
[OC48 TRMTR (A/D STS1 1.3 HI PERF)] 739C5
— OC48 Transmitter, Add/Drop - 1.5 µm Standard Performance
[OC48 TRMTR (A/D STS1 1.5 STD)] 739E_
— OC48 Transmitter, Add/Drop - 1.5 µm High Performance

■ STS-1 cross-connections cannot be made from one low-speed port to
another low-speed port or between two differently numbered STS-1
tributaries.
■ The three STS-1 signals that are demultiplexed on a low-speed interface
circuit pack must come from the same OC-48 high-speed line.
Extra Traffic Capability 8
The FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal also has the capability to provide
extra traffic . Extra traffic allows access to the protection STS-3 and STS-1
(Release 7 and later) tributaries of OC-48 high speed line 1E or 1W for low priority
traffic or for restoration purposes.
In 2-fiber bidirectional rings, STS-3 tributaries 9 through 16 are protection
tributaries. 1-way, 1-way-DRI, and 2-way cross-connections are possible between
any service low-speed interface slot and any protection STS-3 tributary of OC-48
