Software Upgrades 8
The FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System provides an in-service software upgrade
capability using a CIT locally or remotely (with a modem or digital data network).
The CIT (PC running FT-2000 CIT-PC software) must be used locally to install the
initial software into a system. In Release 5 and later releases, remote software
upgrades over the OC-48 data communications channel (DCC) are possible. The
CONFIGURATION-Copy-Program input copies the software contained in the
SYSMEM circuit pack of one FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal (source)
to the SYSMEM circuit pack of another FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal
(destination).
The FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal can copy software to another
FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal in the same ring and through
DDM-2000 NEs to a remote FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal in the
same subnetwork via the OC-3 DCC (in Release 6 and later releases) and OC-12
DCC (Release 7.1 and later releases). The FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings
Terminal must be equipped with the OC3 (or OC-12) Optical Interface circuit pack
and the Overhead Controller - Tributary (TOHCTL) circuit pack to access the
DCC. A single TOHCTL circuit pack can access up to eight DCCs. Low-speed
interface slots must be assigned to an OC-3/OC-12 DCC. For more information
about entering DCC assignments, refer to "OC-3 (or OC-12) DCC Assignment
Inputs" in this section.
The FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave system is fully operational during the software
upgrade. For example, the FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System maintains all
transmission, protection switching, performance monitoring, and system reporting
functions. For detailed information about installing a particular software release,
refer to the applicable software release description.
